Becoming the Person You Were Meant to Be
There comes a time in life when you stop asking, “What does everyone else expect me to become?” and start asking yourself a much more important question:
“Who do I truly want to become?”
That question can be uncomfortable because sometimes the person we are today isn't completely aligned with the person we dream about becoming. Maybe we want to be more confident. More disciplined. More successful. More peaceful. Maybe we want to stop caring so much about what people think. Maybe we want to build a better career, create something meaningful, improve our relationships, or simply become happier within ourselves.
Whatever your vision is, becoming that person doesn't happen in one dramatic moment.
It happens quietly.
It happens through the decisions nobody sees.
It happens when you get back up after disappointment. It happens when you choose discipline over excuses. It happens when you walk away from something that no longer serves you. It happens when you forgive yourself for the mistakes you've made and decide to keep moving forward.
Start With Yourself
Before you can become the person you want to be, you have to understand who you are right now.
Take time to ask yourself some honest questions.
What makes me happy?
What gives me energy?
What drains me?
What am I afraid of?
What do I value?
What kind of life do I actually want?
What am I doing because I genuinely want to do it, and what am I doing because I'm afraid of disappointing other people?
These questions aren't always easy.
Sometimes we discover that we're living according to expectations that were never really ours. We chase certain careers because they sound impressive. We seek approval because we want to feel accepted. We stay in situations because we're afraid of what will happen if we leave.
But becoming yourself requires honesty.
You have to be willing to admit when something isn't working.
And you have to be brave enough to change it.
Stop Comparing Your Journey
One of the biggest obstacles to becoming yourself is comparison.
We look at someone's success and wonder why we aren't there yet. We see someone's relationship and wonder why ours doesn't look like that. We see someone's body, career, home, lifestyle, or confidence and begin questioning ourselves.
But here's what we forget:
We are comparing our behind-the-scenes to someone else's highlight reel.
We don't see their failures.
We don't see their doubts.
We don't see the nights they cried, the opportunities they lost, the mistakes they made, or the years it took them to get where they are.
Your journey has its own timeline.
You don't have to arrive at the same destination at the same time as everyone else.
Some people bloom early.
Some bloom later.
Some people change direction completely.
And that's okay.
Your life isn't late simply because it doesn't look like someone else's.
Choose Discipline Over Motivation
We often wait until we feel motivated before taking action.
But motivation isn't always reliable.
There will be mornings when you don't feel like getting up. There will be days when your goals feel too far away. There will be moments when you question whether your effort is even making a difference.
That's when discipline matters.
Discipline means doing what you said you would do even when you don't feel like doing it.
It can be something as simple as waking up when you said you would, exercising, studying, working on your business, creating content, reading, saving money, or taking care of yourself.
Small actions may not seem powerful in the moment.
But repeated consistently, they can completely change your life.
Your future is being created by what you repeatedly do today.
Learn to Choose Yourself
Choosing yourself doesn't mean becoming selfish.
It means understanding your worth.
It means knowing that you are allowed to have boundaries.
You are allowed to say no.
You are allowed to change your mind.
You are allowed to leave situations that constantly make you unhappy.
You are allowed to protect your peace.
And you are allowed to grow beyond the version of yourself that other people became comfortable with.
Sometimes people will resist your growth because the old version of you was easier for them to understand.
Don't let that stop you.
You are not obligated to remain the same person just because someone else prefers who you used to be.
Become Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable
Growth can be uncomfortable.
If you want a different life, you may have to do things you've never done before.
You may have to speak up.
You may have to take risks.
You may have to introduce yourself to people.
You may have to start something before you feel ready.
You may have to fail publicly.
You may have to begin again.
And yes, it can be scary.
But confidence doesn't always come before the action.
Sometimes confidence comes because you took the action despite being afraid.
Every time you do something difficult, you prove to yourself that you're capable of more than you thought.
Don't Let Failure Define You
Failure is one of the greatest teachers we have, but only if we're willing to learn from it.
Maybe you made the wrong decision.
Maybe you trusted the wrong person.
Maybe you lost an opportunity.
Maybe a dream didn't work out.
Maybe you tried something and completely failed.
It hurts.
But failure doesn't make you a failure.
A mistake doesn't define your entire identity.
Sometimes a closed door is simply redirecting you toward a different one.
Instead of asking, “Why did this happen to me?”, try asking:
“What can I learn from this?”
That question can change everything.
Protect Your Mind
The things you consume every day matter.
The people you listen to matter.
The conversations you participate in matter.
The content you constantly watch matters.
If you're always surrounded by negativity, comparison, criticism, and fear, it becomes harder to hear your own voice.
Protect your mind.
Follow people who inspire you.
Read things that challenge you.
Spend time away from your phone.
Give yourself moments of silence.
Sometimes you don't need more advice from the outside world.
Sometimes you simply need enough quiet to hear yourself again.
Take Care of the Person You Already Are
While you're working toward becoming better, don't forget to appreciate who you are today.
You don't have to hate your current self to create a better future.
You can want more while still being grateful for what you have.
You can recognize your weaknesses without believing you're worthless.
You can have goals without believing you're incomplete.
There is a difference between self-improvement and self-rejection.
Improve because you love yourself—not because you believe you're not enough.
Be Patient With Your Progress
We live in a world that wants everything instantly.
Instant success.
Instant money.
Instant transformation.
Instant recognition.
But meaningful growth takes time.
A tree doesn't become strong overnight.
Neither do you.
There will be seasons when you feel like you're making incredible progress, and there will be seasons when it feels like nothing is happening.
Keep going.
Sometimes growth is happening beneath the surface before you can see the results.
The quiet seasons matter too.
Your Life Doesn't Have to Make Sense to Everyone
One of the greatest freedoms you can experience is realizing that your life doesn't need everyone's approval.
You don't have to explain every dream.
You don't have to justify every decision.
You don't have to prove that your path is valid.
If something is meaningful to you and doesn't harm others, give yourself permission to pursue it.
Your life belongs to you.
Not your followers.
Not your friends.
Not your family.
Not strangers on the internet.
You.
And that means you get to decide what success means for you.
Maybe success is building a company.
Maybe it's becoming a creator.
Maybe it's traveling.
Maybe it's raising a family.
Maybe it's financial freedom.
Maybe it's having a peaceful life.
Maybe it's simply waking up happy and feeling comfortable in your own skin.
There is no single definition.
Keep Becoming
I'm learning that becoming who you are isn't about reaching some final version of yourself.
There may never be a moment when you can say, “I've completely figured myself out.”
And maybe that's the point.
We are meant to evolve.
The person you become next year may have different dreams from the person you are today.
You will learn.
You will change.
You will lose some things.
You will gain others.
You will make mistakes.
You will discover strengths you didn't know you had.
And through all of it, you'll continue becoming.
So don't be afraid of change.
Don't be afraid of starting over.
Don't be afraid of being different.
Don't be afraid of taking your time.
And don't be afraid of becoming someone your past self never imagined.
The Person You're Becoming
One day, you'll look back at the version of yourself who was struggling, doubting, learning, and trying to figure everything out.
And hopefully, you'll be proud.
Not because you became perfect.
But because you didn't give up.
You'll remember the days when you had every reason to quit but kept going.
You'll remember the moments when you chose yourself.
You'll remember the risks you took.
You'll remember the lessons you learned.
And you'll realize that becoming the person you wanted to be wasn't one big decision.
It was thousands of little decisions.
Every morning you chose to try again.
Every time you believed in yourself.
Every time you said no to something that wasn't right.
Every time you picked yourself up.
Every time you chose growth instead of staying comfortable.
Those moments were building you.
So if you're currently in a season where you're questioning yourself, remember this:
You are not behind.
You are not too old.
You are not too far gone.
You are not starting from nothing.
You are starting from experience.
You are starting from everything you've survived, everything you've learned, everything you've lost, everything you've loved, and everything that has shaped you.
Take the next step.
Then another.
You don't need to see the entire staircase.
You just need enough courage to take the next step.
Because the person you want to become isn't waiting somewhere far away.
They're being created by the choices you make today.
So choose courage.
Choose growth.
Choose discipline.
Choose peace.
Choose authenticity.
Choose yourself.
And most importantly, remember:
You don't have to become someone else to be extraordinary.
You simply have to become the most honest, courageous, and authentic version of yourself.
And that journey?
It's already begun. 🤍
